Directed by the Hungarian architect Áron Losonczi we LiTraCon [ Ligth Transmitting Concrete] that after being invented (in 2001) created a company of the same name for marketing. Available in blocks or panels, has the same strength and toughness than conventional concrete, adding thermal insulation properties. It is manufactured using a thin cement 96% and 4% of optical fiber (fiberglass) arranged in layers or cells. The result is a more artistic aspect of playing with the lights and shadows and creates highly evocative and decorative silhouettes.
On the other hand we have the translucent concrete Mexican civil engineers, Joel Omar Sosa and Sergio Galvan , as did Losonczi, also formed a company for marketing Translucent Concrete SLR (apparently also associated with LiTraCon for expansion in Europe) . This concrete is 30% lighter than the traditional and aesthetically resembles an acrylic material. Its development is like that of ordinary concrete, except that the mixture is added an additive secret they have called " Ilum", responsible for its transparency and color. This additive is unique in the world and that gives the concrete 15 times more resistance, no water absorption (which does not deteriorate under the water), allows the passage of 80% light and lighten its weight.
In both cases, given their aesthetic, ensure savings in terms of finishing materials is concerned. To this we must also add that, by letting the light, it also saves electricity. Negative, or why has not sold any of a bulk, the price, higher than the usual concrete. Perhaps with the passage of time savings are achieved and more common use.
